Heavy Metal accident... On the 12/12 we always have the so called "Lusse Rocken" here in my hometown Lerum. First there are some local bands playing and there's disco between every performance. (Otherwise the 14-15 old girls would't been there...) There is also a big band playing (swedish bands like E-TYPE and DIA PSALMA, just to name some...) And this time a swedish band called FIRESIDE was hired. But in the last minute they started to demand stuff like free flight down to Lerum and big dinners for 25 persons (that's what I heard). Rumors also said some band member wasn't feeling very well, but who cares?? So the arrangers told FIRESIDE to "Fuck Off", and called Freak Kitchen instead. Whom said "sure". I was in Germany with mom, dad, grandpa and grandma when the news reached me. Me and my friends were of course very happy about that since we didn't like FIRSESIDE anyway, and FK is our biggest idols. When I came home 10.00 AM (the same day as the concert was held) and called immediately IA and asked him if the rumors were right. They were, Freak Kitchen was going to play in small Lerum!! IA told me we (me, Vigfús & Sven) were going to be on the guest list so we dind't have to worry about getting any tickets. The sound check started 5.00 PM and I went down to check it out. It was cool, see the stage be built and just hang around with the band. They played two songs at the sound check, "Taste My Fist" and a new one called "Vasaline Business". |

When
the sound check was done the band went home and came back one hour before
their performance. The local bands who played were bad and the disco was
in my opinion even worse. Me and my friends were just waiting for FK to
enter the stage. When the band arrived we had a little chat in the dressing
room and asked IA if he could arrange so we could come on stage during
"Inner Revolution" (it has become a tradition by now...) (read
more about that later...)
At 11.00 PM Freak Kitchen entered the stage in Lerum. IA had borrowed my friend Sven's so called "Sjärngosse strut". And Christian had his girlfriends furrjacket. Well the band didn't really look like a hard rock band when entering the stage. But they have never followed the trends, and probably never will. In the dressing room the band and some of the guys who held concert were afraid all the 14-15 year old disco girls would leave the hall when they would see a long haired hard rocking guitar player entering the stage, but for some reason most of the audience staid. They opened with "Vasaline Business" and went then right into "Raw". Freak Kitchen played very well and some of the audience went quite wild sometimes. (Nothing compared to me and my friends head banging stunts...)
Freak Kitchen played two new songs at the show, "Vasaline Business" as written before but also a very beautiful ballad called "Broken Food". They also did the old classic ones like "The Healthy Man", "Dystopia", "Jerk" and "Taste My Fist". When it got time for "Inner Revolution", IA screamed in the microphone for us to come on stage. That was cool! We jumped around on the stage like three crazy cows getting electric shocks. They ended the show with "See you in Pittsburgh" (changed to to See you in Lerum) Well what can I say, the show was great! I give it: /Patrik Ek, webmaster of the Appetizer page |
